India: T minus 5

It is five days until we fly to India...

We will be landing in Mumbai, the most populous city in India, and the fourth most populous in the world.  For context, there are half again as many people in Mumbai than in New York City with double the population density.

That's double...

We won't be in Mumbai for long, quickly moving to Pune for our school, business, and home visits.  Pune only has a population of three million or so, lol...

There will be a cultural tour in Mumbai however, so check back on July 7th for some pictures and stories.

I'm finding that the packing is a bit more of a challenge than I expected.  We can take one checked bag and one carry on.  The problem is that besides clothes, shoes, and toiletries, we also are packing gifts, computers, cameras, and materials for activities in the schools.  My plan was to travel light, but we need casual clothes as well as business attire.  Should be interesting..

I've also been pondering just what I wanted to do on our one free day in Delhi.  I definitely plan to spend some time in the shopping bazaars, maybe one in Old Delhi, like Chandni Chowk (shown below).

Doesn't that look like an amazing scene to be wandering through?!  And to think, in a few weeks I will be able to post my own pictures of places like this.

So what does one bring back as a souvenir from a place as culturally rich as India?  I'd love to hear some ideas.  Right now the only thing I know for sure I'm looking for is a nice collection of spices like garam masala.

More to come!
Namaste!
